Saturday

While Lou went to Yoga, I visited the nearby Hollywood Park Casino for some poker!  It wasn't a money-winning experience, but I enjoyed the play.  I played in a small tournament they run starting at 11:30.  The game is basically a $115 buy-in (Actually, $75 plus 2 "add-ons" that everybody does, for $20 each).  I lasted about 3 hours then got knocked out midpack.  From there I joined the regular Texas Hold-Em game.  They are organized by the amount of the buy-in.  The games are $40, $100, $200 and up.  I put up $100 and was offered one of two seats.   The first was right in-front of a guy with about $1000 in front of him - a terrible position, so I took the second one.  The second table had just started a few minutes before, so everybody had about the same amount.  The fun thing about this table was that it was very wild.  People would risk their entire stacks on weak pairs, or top pair with a weak kicker.  I bided my time and doubled up before too long on a guy who called my repeated bets till I was all in on the river.  He didn't show, and my full house won!  Unfortunately, nothing else happened for the next 2 hours, and I left back even  :(

Lou and I had dinner on our balcony.  She's developed a fondness for cigars, so we shared a cigar while she had a glass of wine.

Lou had read that the Space Station was visible that evening, if we looked to some specific direction at a specific time.  So we headed back up to Palos Verdes, found a dark grassy knoll overlooking the north, and watched the sky for about 30 minutes.

It was a beautiful evening - about 65 degrees and clear.  We were about 8 to 10 miles south of LAX looking north. There is a lot of action in the sky around the airport.  We watched airplanes and helicopters lineing up in the distance and moving around, but no Space Station.  Overhead, and towards the south the sky was clear and we could see a lot of stars, but looking toward the north there was a lot of light pollution, and we couldn't see anything but the brightest stars.  I guess we missed it, but it was a pleasure anyway.

Today we're off to Griffith Park!  I may not be able to write about it for a few days because I'm travelling for work on Monday morning.
