Disneyland - June 29

On Wednesday, Lou and the boys went to Disneyland for the day.  They got there about noon and the park was already crowded.  The parking lot was crowded but well organized with lots of attendants telling you where to go.  The entrance is by the Railway Station.  They strolled down Main street to get to the amusement areas.

Lou and the boys wanted to go to the Indiana Jones Adventure ride, but it was closed for repairs.  So they went on the Jungle Cruise.  It was like a riverboat ride down an African river with trumpeting elephants, snakes, snorting hippos, tigers, swarming piranha and other creatures, as well as local cannibals (this is in LA, after all).

Here they are enjoying a ride on the railroad around the perimeter of the park.

Lou and the boys waited as the steamboat passed before taking the flat-bed raft trip across to the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.

On Tom Sawyer Island, they explored bridges, caves, lookouts and paths through the wilderness.

At the New Orleans French Market the boys had really good bread bowls of clam chowder.  Lou had a grilled chicken salad.  Lunch was only $70.

After lunch they went on the Finding Nemo submarine voyage, the Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters, "Autopia" (see the picture below), then, after a 90 minute wait, Star Tours - The Adventure Continues. By the time they got out of Star Tours, some of the rides were shutting down for the day.

There was a 45 minute wait for Autopia but Disney kept people entertained during the wait with digital screens showing little funny shorts like the cars telling each other riddles and jokes.

Sadly, they didn't figure out Fast Passes until nearly the end of the day.  By the time they were done with Star Tours it was time to leave (after 8:00 - see the clock below).

In their 8 hours at Disney, they took the Jungle Cruise, Tom Sawyers Island, lunch, the Train, Autopia, Finding Nemo, Buzz Lightyear and Star Tours.

Lessons learned:  Get there when they open, use Fast Passes and a single day isn't really enough to do everything.

One of the best moments is when the flagging boys turned to Lou and said: "Don't YOU get tired?"

The park is about 30 miles, or 45 minutes from our house.
